So I’ve decided that one of my favorite things is road trips. I love them. Spending time with my family while we get to see and explore places that we wouldn’t normally see is amazing. Plus, it gives me an excuse to take pictures. Not that I need one, generally, but sometimes things get busy and my camera doesn’t get used as much as I’d like.
This weekend, we ventured all the way up to Pinson Mounds State Park. Now normally, I probably wouldn’t have ventured up there, but my brother was working in Tennessee for a few weeks and needed a ride back to Huntsville. Besides the fact that it was incredibly hot, it was actually a really fun trip. The mounds are actually really hard to notice because, realistically, they just look like hills. And in the middle of summer, they are covered with all kinds of plants and trees.
The biggest mound, in the middle of the complex, is called Saul’s mound. You have to climb a ridiculously long staircase to get to the top. Then you take a small stroll to the boardwalk which carries you over this kind of swampy area down to the river. And then there are the Cyprus trees! I had never seen them before, but they were beautiful, and probably the biggest trees I have ever seen.
All in all, it was well worth the drive. It was only about an hour and a half from our house, and the kids loved spending the day outside. Especially because there was a playground. I mean, honestly, if there are swings around, my kids are happy campers.
